Mark Alan Lovewell sings, plays guitar, banjo, concertina and harmonica. He is a descendant of an old Island whaling family. For nearly two decades he has written about the waterfront and the fishing industry on Martha's Vineyard for the weekly newspaper Vineyard Gazette; for more than 30 years he has sung sea chanteys and for nearly a lifetime he has sailed these waters. Sea Songs of Martha's Vineyard is his first recorded collection of sea chanteys and sailor's songs. Songs were recorded in the spring and summer of 2002 By Jim Parr at Parr Audio in Oak Bluffs. The CD’s popularity was more than expected. In October of 2004, the CD was re-mastered and manufactured by Oasis CD Manufacturing of Sperryville, VA.
This is a perfect gift for the sailor, the avid boater, or the rocking chair mariner.
This CD is musical tribute to the Martha's Vineyard fishermen who worked these waters in the past, those who fish today, and hopefully the generations to follow.
Available now at Bunch of Grapes Bookstore, Vineyard Haven; Martha's Vineyard Historical Society, Edgartown; and New Bedford Whaling Museum Store, New Bedford.
