Thursday, April 2, 2009: 6 p.m. Weathering the Storm on Martha’s Vineyard: An evening of fine dining and fascinating conversation with Mark Alan Lovewell, at The Mansion House in Vineyard Haven. Dinner at Zephrus. Includes talk on Vineyard weather. The Mansion House was the first weather station on Martha’s Vineyard. Mark is a cooperative observer for the National Weather Service. Beach Towns with an Attitude (also known as Beaches with an Attitude), a program about the world’s best beaches and communities by the shore. Mark Alan Lovewell is featured as a singer, writer. His music and stories are part of an introduction to the Beaches of Edgartown. Mr. Lovewell sings and talks about the whaling history of the town. The hour long program included some of the world’s best beaches. The Edgartown segment was ten minutes long. Program was recorded in the late summer of 2004. Sunday, May 1: 2 p.m. Performed opening song for Memorial Service for Cassie Roessel at the Agricultural Society Hall in West Tisbury. She was a Steamship Authority governor. The Education through Cultural and Historical Organizations (ECHO) Act is a major, federally mandated educational and cultural enrichment initiative, annually serving thousands of children and adult in Alaska, Hawaii, and Massachusetts. Mr. Lovewell performed at the Bishop Museum in Honolulu, Hawaii; the Alaska Native Heritage Center in Anchorage, Alaska; the Iņupiat Heritage Center in Barrow, Alaska; Peabody Essex Museum, Salem, Massachusetts and the New Bedford Whaling Museum. Performed for one hour for senior citizens involved in a daylong program of crafts, exercise and activities. Saturday, Nov. 23, 1 p.m.: Travis Tuck funeral service at the New Agricultural Society Hall in West Tisbury. Mr. Lovewell opened the service with a song and closed the program with a song. Mr. Tuck was a celebrated metal sculptor who died on Monday, Nov. 18 after succumbing to a two year struggle with lung cancer. He was 59 years of age. Thursday, June 17, 1999, Martha's Vineyard Times. Kay Mayhew, town columnist wrote: "Now that Mark Lovewell lives in our town, we can claim one of the best folk performers on the Island. Mark entertained at the Historical Society on Saturday with lively sea chanteys and brief stories of their origins. He accompanied his songs with guitar, harmonica and concertina." Saturday, August 28, 3 to 5 p.m., Edgartown Scrimshaw Gallery, a program fundraiser for Sail Martha's Vineyard. Maritime artist Jim Mitchell signed limited edition prints of his painting of Shenandoah and Alabama sailing. Friday, September 10, 7 p.m. Owen Park.
