From the Island of Martha's Vineyard...
Martha's Vineyard is an especially beautiful island. This is where photographer and writer Mark Alan Lovewell lives and works. His photography and stories appear regularly in the weekly newspaper Vineyard Gazette.
"For more than 30 years, I've been a witness to the Island's changing seasonal moods. I've seen the Vineyard amid the winds of a hurricane and at dawn of a quiet still morning."
He photographs using Nikon D-1X digital single lens reflex camera; a Hasselblad medium format camera and a (4 x 5) large format camera. As a young photographer he was influenced by the large format photography of Ansel Adams, Paul Strand and Edward Weston and others.
Years ago The New England Outdoor Writers Association gave a number of first place awards to this photographer. In their 1997 spring newsletter the following was written: "Vineyard Gazette reporter, photographer and fishing columnist, Mark Lovewell showed us just how beautiful black and white can be. Mark Won First Place in Scenic, Action and Fauna categories, a second in Scenic and third in Fauna in the Black and White Division!"
In the spring of 2002, Mr. Lovewell was featured in the magazine Vineyard Style. Editor John Budris wrote an extensive piece on Mr. Lovewell, his work and photography.
In February 2007, Mr. Lovewell received a second place general news award from the New England Newspaper Association.
